#259: These Insults Need to Stop

  • Harris: “Trump is a fascist.“
  • Insult Comic: “Puerto Rico is a floating island of garbage.”
  • Biden, paraphrased, “Trump voters are garbage.”
  • Biden, on second thought, paraphrased, “What was said was garbage.”
  • Harris, paraphrased, “What Biden said was – something she strongly disagrees with.”
  • Trump: Dresses up as a garbage truck driver.

Or so it goes. And has been going on for a while. What a drama, what the farce. This is a country of great writers, musicians, artists, scientists, thinkers, architects, soldiers, farmers, builders, of professionals of all kind, of kind, generous, loving, dedicated people who all deserve better. This is not a question of Republican or Democrat or Independent, it is a question of decency and respect.

There are decent politicians as well. When General Kelly called Trump a fascist, and Kamala Harris repeated this, it was not necessarily meant as a deep political and historical point of comparison, but it was meant as an insult, a label so extreme that it should frighten people. It didn’t, for why should it, nobody voting for Trump has any illusions about the man, they’re voting for him in spite of just as in support of what he says. It is infuriating, sure, but ironically, on the left, enfants terribles have been catered to and venerated so much that we are now seeing the results of our collective love affair and sympathy with the metaphorical devil. Not that Trump is the devil, but he likes to annoy people both professionally and unprofessionally. It’s his act. “Make liberals cry again” is seen on many Trump posters. Being called fascist is, ironically, increasing his non-liberal street cred. Sad, so sad. Harris should not have picked it up – she demeaned herself and hurt her campaign by doing so. She showed fear, while she should have refused to play this kind of game. What happened to the campaign of “joy”?

Now, Trump being Trump, he hires an insult comic that is great at roasting people, and apparently also entire territories. That entire rally was ill-tempered. Now, calling Puerto Rico garbage is the wrong way to go. Take the win, Kamala! But no, Biden — still President — needs to make it worse, and cannot cover it up anymore. I believe I have never seen that much salivating on Fox. Crisis averted, and turned around. At least Kamala did not take that one up. Good for her, for once. And of course, the troller in chief dresses up as a garbage truck driver. Wait, does he agree with Biden? Who knows. It’s the weave, or something.

We have reached a point where this nonsense needs to stop. Politics is a serious business. Real problems await whoever was foolish enough to ruin their life by running for President. Being President is a duty, a heavy duty, and a burden, and things will have to be done.

Please treat your voters as real people with real concerns. We don’t need this drama content – some of us may want it, but none of that is helpful. Watch the movie Idiocracy, that should tell you what day it is.

Your opponent is not your enemy, and this is not a team sport. These candidates should have our respect for volunteering to do one of the hardest and most influential job on the planet. They should also act in a way that our respect comes more easily.

This affects all of us – yes, us. I recently became a US citizen. I am feeling the “us” now so much more strongly. And it is us that can do one thing: Reduce the demand for such insult nonsense, so that maybe, just maybe, the supply side realizes that their product is no longer needed that much.

Let’s hope.
