This is just a collection of comments that could each be developed further, but here goes:
- Russia is still not winning. But its vicious destruction of Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and life and military continues unabated. It is not enough for Russia to not win. Russia must lose to realize that this is illegitimate behavior. Ukraine must win.
- Russian propaganda has painted Zelenskyy as an illegitimate president. That is wrong. Russia caused Ukraine to declare martial law, and under these circumstances, no elections can be held, and Zelenskyy is still the legitimate president. On the contrary – Putin is indeed illegitimate because of the massive fraud committed before and during the Russian elections. Putin, again, just wants to accuse Ukraine of what it is doing itself.
- Putin has NOT presented a peace plan. His “cease fire” plan means the annexation of further Ukrainian territory – most of it currently not conquered by Russia – and thus of millions of Ukrainians who are supposed to be tortured, raped, killed, expelled, or Russified. This s not about territory, it is about people, about democracy, about resistance to tyranny. Putin wants Ukraine to disappear as an independent, sovereign, democratic state. This is what it has always been about.
- NATO is still not threatening Russia. Proof: Russia is withdrawing troops from the Finnish border. Seriously.
- Sanctions are working, but must be tougher.
- Ukraine can only win with our support. We need to do much, much, much more.
- Ukraine is fighting a war AND fighting corruption AND fighting to fulfill EU accession criteria. This is unprecedented.
- If Ukraine loses, Russia will certainly go further. Moldova and Georgia first. Probably Suwalki Gap second. Artic as well. Africa too.
- Listen to Russian Media Monitor or other sources showcasing Russian propaganda. You will learn the Putin-approved war aims: All of Eastern and Central Europe including East Germany are on the table for Putin. Everything formerly Soviet must return, Mexico be turned against the US, etc. Every ounce of freedom and democracy is being fought by Russia.
- Russia and China do meddle in our elections, contributing to division and disillusion.
- This is a coordinated attack. We are already in World War III. We need to take this seriously.
- Only if Russia loses will all these dangers disappear.
But:
- It can be done. A victory of democracy over tyranny is possible.
- Russian economy is by now too much of a war economy.
- Russia has no friends, no allies, only pseudo-allies exploiting Russia’s needs and weaknesses. Some of them also want to tell the West to take them more seriously. The West made many mistakes – we need to fix them, and work to restore trust with those countries.
- Russia only wins if we give in. It cannot win if we stay strong and improve our ways.
- Ukraine will continue fighting. They will win.
- Russia will fall, and then, we need to work with Russia to support democracy.
- We will all benefit from a Ukrainian victory – even Russia.
